NEGRIL, Westmoreland — is general manager of Catcha Falling Star bar restaurant and cottages on the West End Cliffs in this western tourist town. As she tells it, the property, which was established in 2004 by Harry Miller and Suzan Home, has a fascinating history, some of which is rooted in the passage of Hurricane Ivan which hit the island that same year.

One of the most sriking fetaures of that history is the the Ivan Bar which was built using remnants of a tree that was struck by the powerful storm.

OBS WEST: Why did the couple venture into the business?

JA: They fell in love with Jamaica and wanted to do some development to provide jobs.

OBS WEST: So far, are you satisfied with the support from local and overseas guests?

JA: The support is very good. Guests from overseas are seasonal, while the support from Jamaicans is all-year-round, especially during the holidays. The restaurant produces good food and is very popular with Jamaican people.

OBS WEST: What are some of the challenges with which you are faced?

JA: It is not always easy to buy the things you need in Jamaica. Sometimes there is also a challenge getting quality food supply. The high cost of electricity is also a challenge.

OBS WEST: Are there any plans to expand the business?

JA: No, not at the moment.

OBS WEST: What is your advice to persons who are thinking of going into business such as the one you manage?

JA: Do your research, be dedicated, make sure you provide excellent customer service and be very patient
