Could this be her last run in Jamaica?

Princess Popstar’s victory on Wednesday probably signalled the end of her racing career in Jamaica,

as the truly gifted horse of the year again demonstrated to local fans the depth of her class. Racing over six furlongs from the outside draw, jockey Percy Williams quickly got her going, and despite attempts from the likes of Classy Prospect and El Poderoso to challenge, the offspring of Adore The Gold – Doc’s Paladin simply moved into another gear and pulled away convincingly for another easy win by seven lengths. While fans at the track were again at seeing the talent of Princess Popstar who was scoring her sixth win from as many starts, there was an underlying feeling of sadness. Princess Popstar is now slated to leave the island by the end of this month or in early August for

Trinidad and Tobago where her main assignment will be that country’s Derby scheduled to be run in September. Trainer Philip Feanny confirmed the travel arrangements of the three-year-old bay filly shortly after her victory on Wednesday. “Yes this will probably be her last outing in Jamaica. The decision was made long ago by her connections to take her to Trinidad. After the injury we took our time with her and the last two runs within 17 days have shown that she has really progressed well.

“It now seems she will be leaving Jamaica before the end of this month or by early August. She will obviously need some time to settle in her new environment in order to perform at her best,” trainer Feanny told the Complete Racing Guide.

It is expected that trainer John O’Brien will condition Princess Popstar in Trinidad. It was O’Brien who took charge of Bruceontheloose after he left Jamaica.
