MICHAEL Dick’s hat-trick gave St Thomas Eagles an exciting 13-run win over St Catherine, as the 2014 Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum Masters T20 cricket competition continued at the Kensington Cricket Club, Preston Road in Rollington Town, East Kingston, on the weekend.

It was the Eagles second win from three games, as they joined back St Catherine at the top of the group with six points each, while it was the first defeat for the losers in three starts.

Batting first, the St Thomas Eagles made 125 for five off their allotted 20 overs, with Samuel Barrett scoring 31 not out off 27 balls, including three fours and one six, while Clive Scott hit 26 not out off 17 balls, with one four and two sixes.

The other contributors to the score were Timothy Wilson with 24 off 33 balls, including four fours, and Kenneth Thompson, 18 not out off 24 balls. The wicket takers were Myron Chin with two for 19 off his four overs, and Adolphus Lawrence with two for 20 off four overs.

St Catherine in their reply were going great guns as at one stage they were 45 for one before Dick struck with his hat-trick, thus becoming the second person to achieve the feat since the inception of the competition in 2012.

From then onwards St Catherine struggled throughout the rest of their innings, as they were 85 for six at that stage and needed an additional 45 runs to secure victory. However, despite coming close the overs ran out and they could only score 116 runs for six wickets.

For St Catherine, the main scorers were Herbert Garriques with 21 not out off 40 balls; Conrod Granston with 20 not out off 17 balls, Winston Heath with 20 off 12 balls, and Bevon Harris, 18 off 16 balls. Dick was the most successful bowler with four for 21 off his four overs.

Meanwhile, the second match between May Pen Lions and Mico Masters went much closer than the first match, with the Lions winning by seven runs to leave both teams on six points each from three matches.

May Pen Lions, who won the toss and batted to score 152 for the loss of six wickets off their allotted 20 overs.

Howard Copeland, who batted at number four, lifted the innings with a fine knock of 63 runs off 51 balls which included six fours and two towering sixes.

Other good support came from Collis Johnson with 20 not out off 19 balls. Jubert Llewelyn took three wickets for 33 runs off his four overs.

Mico Masters needed a little over 7.7 runs an over to win the match but struggled throughout as a result of a slow start.

At the end they finished on 146 for six. Captain Winston Marshall was the top scorer with 48 runs made off 29 balls and contained three fours and two sixes. Cecil Lewis with 32 off 37 balls (three fours), and Carl Brissett, 28 off 29 balls, were the other top scorers, while Harold Williamson took three wickets of 31 runs off his four overs.
