THE fifth generation Honda Civic is an icon in the tuner arena and is often credited for jump-starting the import performance craze on this side of the planet.

So what’s better vehicle for Skunk Nation to work their collective magic on?

Even better, the ‘spruced up’ ride will be up for grabs at Import Tuner Night: Street Tuner Invasion at National Stadium, in St Andrew, on August 16.

“The EG Civic is a timeless model. The after-market accessories are easily accessed and our country is about 70 per cent Honda populated. So we figured to kick-start it this way,” Skunk Nation’s Nick Lue told Auto.

Lue spent four months carving out a diamond out of a used 1994 EG5 model to prepare it as the ultimate prize to one lucky fan at their upcoming show. The car was pulled down to bare chassis for a full respray in the brilliant red it now wears. The interior was then brought up to scratch as the roof, floor, door panels and back seats were redone as factory fresh as possible.

“Since this is our first giveaway car, we wanted to focus more on appearance. We’ll leave the engine modifications to the new owner,” Lue said.

That doesn’t mean the winner won’t get a leg up in the tuning game as the normal SOHC D-series motor found the EG5 was replaced with a more potent 1600cc Non-VTEC DOHC B-series. The car has received new shocks with sleeve-type coil-overs to lower the car over the white 15-inch Tracklite Drive wheels.

Appearance-wise the interior was spruced up with the more driver-focused seats from Integra RSX. The exterior received a front lip and side mirrors, which are replicas of items from famed Japanese Honda tuner Spoon. A duckbill style spoiler now adorns the rear hatch, while the headlight housings are now black. All of it adds up to an EG with a distinctive style, one with some key ‘Mad Mods’.

“Attend our annual Skunk Nation Import Tuner Night Event slated for August 16 National Stadium. Each paying patron will get a ticket stub to fill out, which will give them with a chance to win the car. The winner will be announced on the night of the event,” Lue explained.
