Two for Queen’s Counsel title today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two senior attorneys are to be conferred with the title of Queen’s Counsel in a ceremony at the Supreme Court today, July 24.
They are noted civil attorney Charles Piper and all-rounder Garth McBean. They were reportedly selected from a group of 10 attorneys who applied for the much-coveted title within the legal profession.
“I am deeply honoured and overwhelmed by my appointment as Queen’s Counsel,” McBean said in response from queries from the media.
“I was inspired and motivated to apply for the appointment by my late parents, members of the Judiciary and the Legal profession, to whom I am indeed grateful,” he added.
OBSERVER ONLINE was unable to get a comment from Piper.
Throughout his long career, that started in 1970, McBean has been involved in some noted cases including the Dudus/Manatt enquiry into the 2010 police operations in Tivoli Gardens and the recently concluded ATL fraud case where he was among noted attorneys who prosecuted the case on a fiat.
McBean was employed from1989 to July 2003 in the law firm of DunnCox in the Litigation Department. He left in 2003 as Partner in the firm.
McBean was also a deputy director in the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions in the mid 1980s.
He’s currently an associate tutor in the Norman Manley Law School.
