Little Cottage In Negril
Hidden behind an unassuming wall a few hundred metres down West End Road from the roundabout in the centre of Negril lies a private estate many have driven past countless times without suspecting that a piece of history has been seemingly frozen in time. Owned by Cherry and Craig Travis, who recall the way Negril used to be with not a small dose of nostalgia, the property has become a favourite of discerning travellers looking to step back in time and experience a cottage in Negril like the one romanticised in Tyrone Taylor’s classic hit song.
Travis, a medical doctor hailing from Miami who fell in love with Jamaica in the 1970s, acquired Llantrissant in 1979 and spent years practicing medicine with patients lining up for consultations in his office, which has since been converted to a stand-alone cottage for guest accommodation. Travis now practises medicine in an emergency room in Miami, and when he escapes to Negril pours the same affection into the relentless task of maintaining the beachfront estate, which he has restored over the past three decades to its former glory.
With two private beaches, towering cotton trees and sea grapes shading two private beaches, Llantrissant can only be described as one-of-a-kind. While there’s no escaping the booming bass thumping into the night from Seven-Mile Beach across the water, Llantrissant is as serene as it gets in Jamaica’s capital of casual. The attentive staff become family, the lapping waves hypnotic. The world can wait when the biggest decisions to make relate to the timing of meals, tennis on the grass court, kayaking or snorkelling, or in what order. For those who thought there was nothing else to discover in Negril, think again, Llantrissant Beachcliff Villa, where the beaches meet the cliffs, awaits.
