THERE was something for everyone at Sunday’s Babes & Bikes at Portmore Pines Plaza, St Catherine.

“For a first event I’m happy. There definitely will be a next one,” Marlon ‘Crazy Cutter’ Fletcher, event organiser, told Auto.

While Fletcher was pleased that the combination of partying and bike displays went over great with the largely Portmore crowd, he said he’d learnt enough for future stagings of Babes & Bikes.

“Next time, I’ll try for a more secure location and I’ll have more for the bikes to do,” he said.

Fletcher, who made his name performing death-defying motorbike stunts earning the nickname Crazy Cutter, is co-founder of Kingston-based Crazy Bikerz. He said, however, this event was not a stunt fest.

“I will always be into bike stunts. But it was just time for something different. There are more stunt shows to come in the future,” he said.

The first contest was the ‘Best Superior Bike’ sponsored by Superior Parts Limited. The prize of a helmet went to Jevon White with his decorated 2014 Zhujiang bike. The Best Bike contest was saved for last and brought out some ‘serious’ machinery that required an elimination round. In the end, crowd favourite Carl ‘Bill Gates’ Bartley took the top prize with his chromed-out 2011 Yamaha R6.

“I expected the win, as I know I have the baddest R6 on the island,” Bartley said.

Having owned the bike for two years, Bartley explained that the factory chrome job, that came at a significant cost, always garners him plenty of attention.

The show then saw several musical performances that culminated with dancehall artiste Tommy Lee Sparta.
