T’S hard to account for attraction. It’s a mystery that happens inside us when a perfect stranger captures our interest. But that was exactly what happened when Robert MooYoung first saw Camille Spencer at a Christian tertiary retreat in February of last year at Moorlands Camp, Manchester. As he puts it: “When a beautiful damsel walked past me, I must confess that I was intoxicated by the fragrance of her femininity. My heart and mind became curious, and I wanted to know who this lady was.”

However, due to the nature of the retreat and the fact that Camille was often surrounded by her friends, Robert could not find the opportune moment to get to know her better. But as providence would have it, Camille and Robert met once again under different circumstances and began a beautiful friendship that blossomed into true love. But the love-struck swain will never forget the first sighting of his bride-to-be at Moorlands Camp. Though we are in an age when online dating sites are growing in popularity, the couple firmly believes that God was their matchmaker that day.

“I proposed to Camille on a Sabbath night at her parents’ home in Hopewell, Hanover,” Robert shared with Vows.

“Leading up to the proposal, I emphasised how wonderful she is and how she deserves the very best. I told her how much I love her and that I want no other lady to be my wife and the mother of my children.”

When he took out the engagement ring and asked her to be his wife, she broke into a smile that assured Robert that the answer was yes.

“In that moment, I was the happiest man alive and my heart was touched like never before.”

Robert added that even though he proposed to Camille, he approached her parents to receive their blessing, which was granted after a long but wonderful discussion.

THE ONE HE KEPT FOR ME

Camille and Robert said their wedding vows at the idyllic Coyaba Gardens and Mahoe Falls in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Sunday, April 27, 2014. The Gardens, beautifully decorated in red and gold, provided the picturesque ambiance suited for ushering the bride to the altar. Escorted up the aisle by her proud father Sephton Spencer, Camille was the picture of old-Hollywood glamour, fitted in a white strapless Lori-Ann’s Brides gown with a beaded bust and sweetheart neckline. Satin waves rippled throughout the bodice and corseted back, and a white-feathered fascinator with a birdcage veil adorned her head to put the finishing touches on her stunning look. Camille glided up the aisle to the strains of Maurette Brown Clarke’s The One He Kept for Me, sung by Sasha-Gaye Fraser, a friend of the couple.

The wedding ceremony was officiated by Pastor Michael Harvey.

The elegant setting for the reception set the mood for a lovely afternoon. The bridal party delighted guests with a theatrical entrance into the venue to the Pink Panther theme. Not to be outdone, the couple made their entrance playing actors in the Western film The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, before dancing their way to the head table. The scene culminated with claps and cheers to the beat of Celebration by Kool and the Gang.

With MC duties ably handled by Pastor Tidene Brevitt, there was never a dull moment as laughter filled the air and glasses clinked continuously, signalling a request for the bride and groom to seal their union with a kiss.

The couple performed their first dance to You Are My Lady by Freddie Jackson, ahead of slicing into their three-tiered wedding cake. As the sun disappeared behind a curtain of clouds, the evening ended with sing-along love songs and photo ops with the bride and groom.

The newly-weds honeymooned at the intimate Rio Nuevo Great House in St Mary.
