VIDEO: Sabina Park floodlights commissioned
KINGSTON, Jamaica — On Sunday evening, many cricket lovers saw an artificially illuminated Sabina Park for the first time as the freshly-installed lights were commissioned at the venue.
Mere minutes before 8 o’clock, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller gave the word and the lights were switched on, quickly illuminating the ground.
The lighting project was funded to the tune of US$2.1 million from the Government of India. A further grant of US$600,000 came from the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) to complete the overall US$2.7-million budget. Work on getting the lights installed started in early April and concluded at the end of July.
The state-run Urban Development Corporation (UDC) managed the project, while the FosRich Group of Companies was the contractor. FosRich partnered with Philips Lighting, an international firm with substantial ties in Europe, Asia and South America.
