GLEN Mills, head coach of Racers Track Club, headlined nine Jamaican sports personalities who were appointed to the Orders of the Societies of Honour and awarded the Badge of Honour with effect from yesterday’s Independence Day.

Mills, already the holder of the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD), was bestowed with the country’s fourth highest honour, the Order of Jamaica (OJ) for his outstanding contribution to track and field through coaching Jamaican athletes, one of whom is the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt.

Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD) for distinguished contribution to coaching and sports commentary; paralympians Tanto Campbell, Alphanso Cunningham and Sylvia Grant were also awarded ODs for their sterling contribution to sports, while Alfred ‘Franno’ Francis, for contribution to sports, especially track and field, and Andrew Price, for outstanding contribution in the development of national football, were also recognised with ODs.

Ruddy Williams received the Badge of Honour for meritorious service (BH {M}) for his contribution to the development of cricket in Jamaica, while Rudolph Marzouca received the Badge of Honour for long and faithful service (BH {L}) for over 50 years of service to the Melbourne Crescent Cricket Club and Youth Club.
