Kudos for JAMALCO’s summer employment programme
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Fifty tertiary level students employed to Jamalco for the summer are praising the bauxite alumina company for assisting their development, according to a news release.
“This is a very valuable experience for summer workers as it is the first time that some of us are being exposed to the working world,” Akiel Russell, a business administration student at the University of Technology (UTech), reportedly said.
Jason Palmer, an engineering student, also at UTech, said the working experience is “an excellent place for me to develop my practical skills.”
The programme has also been beneficial in assisting with back-to-school expenses for the students.
The summer employment programme runs from June 2 to August 29 and students are placed at the company’s Manchester and Clarendon locations.
Hundreds of applications were received this year, with 52 of the applicants being selected.
The beneficiaries are mainly from the communities in which the company operates, while others are dependents of Jamalco’s employees.
