WEST BAY, Grand Cayman — Jamaica’s Under-15 female footballers will take on Costa Rica in a top-of-the-table clash to decide Group C winners at the TE McField Sports Complex today at 7:30 pm.

In the curtain-raiser at 5:30 pm, Belize tackle Anguilla as both teams are hunting their first points of the championship. They will head home tomorrow.

The Young Reggae Girlz, following their 9-0 demolition of Anguilla on Saturday, lead the group on goal difference ahead of Costa Rica who thumped Belize 7-0.

Both Jamaica and Costa Rica are on six points after securing identical 5-0 wins in their opening matches.

With that in mind Jamaica, who lead the group, need only a draw to secure top spot and avoid a possible quarter-final clash with regional CONCACAF powerhouse Canada, and instead, set up a Wednesday date with Haiti, the likely runners-up from Group D.

So today’s game is of significance to both teams and Jamaica’s head coach Xavier Gilbert will have to tweak his team once again following their 9-0 win over Anguilla.

He brought in 12-year-old Jody Brown for her first start of the tournament and she bagged four goals in Saturday night’s demolition, staking her claim for a starting spot with her clinical display.

The striker, who is the youngest member of the team, netted in the 12th, 17th, 19th and 29th minutes. Also she had goalbound shot deflected and ruled an own goal in the 26th minute.

She also missed a penalty in the 56th minute.

Brown should once again lead Jamaica’s attack alongside Chavelle Henry and Tateyana Pitter.

Monique Perrier and Peta-Gay Dixon, who were rested in the second game, should reclaim their positions in midfield and left back, respectively. Dixon, in particular, was rested because she will have her work cut out to contain the lively right-side of Costa Rica contyrolled by Meredith Calderon and the pencil-thin Maria Salas.

Captain Rachel Walters and Emily Caza are expected to be back in the heart of the defence with the talented midfield trio of Shanhaine Nelson, Tarania Clarke and Sherice Clarke will again be pulling the strings.

However, the impressive Costa Ricans seem like a well-rounded unit. In addition to Calderon and Salas, the likes of Carmen Marin, Merelyn Alvarado and Maria Sanabria will take some stopping.
