COMMONWEALTH Games champions Stephenie Ann McPherson and O’Dayne Richards will lead a Jamaican delegation as the IAAF Diamond League series resumes in Stockholm, Sweden, after an almost month-long break.

Seven Jamaicans are down to participate in the event, which could confirm Novlene Williams-Mills as the winner of the women’s 400m title with two races still to go.

Williams-Mills, who was second to McPherson at the Commonwealth Games in a Jamaican medal sweep, leads the Diamond race with 14 points, well ahead of the rest of the field and a top-three placing today could wrap up the race.

The women’s 400m could be one of the highlights of the meeting with world leaders Francena McCorory (49.48 seconds) and Sanya Richards-Ross (49.66 seconds) set to challenge the Jamaicans.

Richards bullied his way into the international limelight with his improbable win in Glasgow in a national record of 21.61m, which has him fifth on the IAAF world rankings.

The soft-spoken Jamaican will face another strong field that includes Christian Cantwell, Reese Hoffa and Ryan Whiting.

National champion and Commonwealth Games medallist Nickel Ashmeade and Nesta Carter are down to face the starter in the men’s 100m where they will face American Michael Rodgers.

Schillonie Calvert is the lone Jamaican in the women’s 200m where she will face Americans Allison Felix, Tori Bowie, the new sensation on the circuit, and Jeneba Tarmoh as well as Sweden’s Irene Ekelund.

After being disqualified in the first round at the Commonwealth Games, 400m hurdler Roxroy Cato gets a chance to atone when he races against a top field that will include world champion Jehue Gordon of Trinidad, Puerto Rico’s Javier Culson, Olympic champion Felix Sanchez and American Michael Tinsley.
