House to pay tribute to Roger Clarke today
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The House of Representatives will pay tribute to the late Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Roger Clarke, when it meets today at 2:00 pm.
Clarke died of a heart attack on August 28 in Florida while on his way home, following surgery.
Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, will answer questions from Opposition MP, Gregory Mair, on the long delay in tabling a Bill to amend the Access to Information (ATI) Act, in keeping with proposals emanating from the review of the Act which ended in 2011.
Mair (MP for North East St Catherine) wants to know when the Government intends to complete the process.
Government’s handling of the review of the Act, which gives access to the public and the media to view and copy official documents not exempted under the provisions, has been a major source of disappointment for stakeholders since 2011.
The last review ended in 2010 and the recommendations were passed by Parliament in 2011. However, approximately three years later, Cabinet has not signed off on the changes to the Act emanating from that report.
