Piscean Rocket to fire in Overnight Allowance
THE Winnie Anglin Memorial Cup, a maiden special weight contest for native-bred two-year-old fillies, headlines the 10-race card at Caymanas Park today.
However, it is the seventh race on the card, an Overnight Allowance event, that provides the day’s most competitive race as it brings together an exciting field of 11 non-winners of an Overnight Allowance race going 1,100 metres.
The Winnie Anglin will go the minimum trip of 1,000 metres round for a field of six runners and opens the programme at 12:20 pm with the Overnight Allowance call scheduled to go to post at approximately 3:25 pm.
In the opening race the Wayne DaCosta-trained Elvira seems to be head and shoulders above her five rivals and should come back to the winning post an easy winner on debut with leading jockey Dick Cardenas in the saddle.
Not so though in the heated Overnight Allowance call that features a number of hot stepping rattlers that include Fortuneonehundred, Runjohnny Run, Campesino, Winchester and last but not least Piscean Rocket.
An ultra consistent rattler, the Elite Bloodstock Ltd-owned four-year-old bay gelded son of Traditional out of Starry Eyes (Outrigger) in 24 career starts has been 10 times second, including five of his last six races.
This is a race for non-winners of an Overnight Allowance call and none of the current field of runners has beaten Piscean Rocket at this level and with Fortuneonehundred, whom he had beaten going 1,000 metres straight now sitting on level terms at 56.0kg along with Campesino, Piscean Rocket does hold a competitive edge to come out on top.
Champion jockey Dane Nelson, who had the leg up on Piscean Rocket seven out of the gelding’s last 10 starts will again ride for trainer Richard Azan, while Richard Mairs will partner Campesino for trainer Philip Feanny.
Cardenas returns to the saddle of Fortuneonehundred for trainer Wayne DaCosta with Shane Ellis doing duty atop Runjohnny Run for trainer Delroy Waugh.
