VIDEO: Colour Craze

Who to See: Trechea Reid-McCalla

Where: Shades of Elegance Salon & Spa, Shop #3 Ascot Hall, Ascot Drive, Old Harbour, St Catherine

What to Get: Come for the hair colouring treatment, stay for deep conditioning & fabulous make-up

From Kelly Osbourne’s iconic purple do to Rihanna’s chameleon-like hair transformations, celebs are fearless when it comes to revamping their look with a striking new hair colour.

This week, Under the Dryer takes a page out of their look-book to show you how you can confidently pull off any daring shade this new fall season. And we’re not talking simple highlights, either — we’re going bold with head-turning colours like hot pink, blue, turquoise green, purple and orange.

Editor’s Note: Trained professionals at a reputable salon is your best bet for long lasting results without damaging those tresses. Follow up treatment is a must to maintain healthy tresses.

This Week’s Pick…

Trechea Reid-McCalla, owner of Shades of Elegance Salon & Spa in Old Harbour with 15 years’ experience in hair and beauty care under her belt, is one of the best in the business for eye-popping hair colour. Reid-McCalla and her team put together five vibrant shades that will inspire you to make art out of your hair. After the hair is done they’ll handle the make-up too, for a completely new look.

Trechea Reid-McCalla at Shades of Elegance used Alfaparf Milano Jean’s Color in Pink, Orange, Violet, Ocean Blue and Green, ammonia-free temporary creamy colours based on vegetable dyes.

Here’s how…

1.Lift the pigments from the hair until blonde

2. Shampoo to rinse out the bleaching cream

3. Rub your shade of Alfaparf Milano’s Jean’s Color onto the amount of hair desired

4. Let sit for 20 minutes in a cap under the dryer

5. Rinse, condition, style and go!

Trechea’s Tips for Colour-Treated Hair

1. Rehydrate: Use a moisturising, conditioning hairdress as often as necessary. Shampoo, at least once a week, with a colour-lock shampoo that won’t bleed out your colour. Give your hair the moisture it needs by deep-conditioning each time you wash.

2. Avoid Thermal Styling: Apply heat to your hair sparingly as its frequent use will quickly damage colour-treated hair. If you must, apply a heat-protection product before styling with heat in order to protect your hair.

3. Trim & Retouch: To keep your hair looking colour bright and healthy, trim the ends of your hair regularly and retouch your hair colour after six weeks to cover new growth.

Reid-McCalla recommends using Kera Care’s hydrating de-tangling shampoo; creme conditioner and conditioning creme hairdress as part of your hair-care routine for your coloured tresses.

Get it at: Shades of Elegance Beauty Supply Store, Shop #11, Upstairs Juici Plaza, Old Harbour, St Catherine
