Car club donates to Mandeville hospital
MANDEVILLE, Manchester: Proceeds from last month’s classic car show at the Brooks Park Sports and Recreational Complex in Mandeville have enabled the Mandeville Regional hospital to get a much-needed boost.
The hospital on Wednesday was the recipient of items including a wheel chair, blood pressure machine, a multi-function printer, stuff toys, oxygen masks, cotton wool, surgical tapes and adult diapers.
The August 31 show, organised by the Central Classic Car Club, was in its fourth year. However, a charitable element incorporated for the first time.
Victor Dixon Jr, a representative of the Central Classic Car Club, told Auto that the hospital was chosen because of its significance to the community.
“The hospital has always been doing something good for Mandeville, so we thought it’s time for us to do something good for the hospital. We hope to do it (donation) every year and we want the (Mandeville Regional) Hospital to be our primary beneficiary,” said Dixon.
Senior Medical Officer at the Mandeville Regional Hospital Dr Everton McIntosh said the donated items are used on a daily basis and given the financial constraints, they are always grateful for contributions.
“We cannot provide quality care without assistance from well-meaning and caring individuals and organisations such as the classic car club,” he said.
The Central Classic Car Club, based in Mandeville, currently has members from within Manchester, Clarendon, St Elizabeth and St Catherine.
