Great set from Beenie Man
DANCEHALL artiste Beenie Man delivered a phenomenal set at the third staging of Wednesday’s Live in the City weekly concert series held at CRU Bar and Kitchen in St Andrew.
The entertainer transformed the usually ‘reserved’ venue into a dancehall party with his huge musical catalogue.
Starting his almost two-hour set with an intro of Buju Banton’s Our Father in Zion. This was followed by songs like Murderer, Foundation, World Dance, and Who Am I.
While he performed, some patrons danced up a storm, while others sang in unison.
“Can I get a round of applause please?” he jokingly asked, to which the audience readily obliged.
The majority of his performance was dedicated to his female fans who enjoyed tracks including Wickedest Slam, Itsy Bitsy, Let Him Go, Dude, Dancehall Queen, Sexual Healing and Old Dog.
He later introduced his daughter, Desha-Gayle to centre stage to show off her latest dance moves. The 22-year-old is a member of the Ding Dong-led Ravers Clavers Dance crew.
Performances also came from Kantana and Future Fambo.
Among those who partied were entertainers Vanessa Bling, TOK, and Miss Universe Jamaica Kaci Fennel.
Part proceeds of Wednesday’s staging was in aid of the Lupus Foundation of Jamaica as well as the Sickle Cell Foundation.
Beenie Man disclosed he was a carrier of the sickle cell trait.
“I have the sickle cell trait and my son, Moses, has sickle cell. I have to take great care of him and I can’t let any rain wet him and ting,” Beenie Man told his audience.
Miss Universe Jamaica top-ten contestant Zandrea Bailey spoke to the gathering about her battle with lupus.
“I just live life for each day and ensure that my lifestyle is healthy,” the 24-year-old said.
Boom Energy Drink pledged $50,000 towards the charities.
