Exciting finale to Sprint series
THE Bybrook Orchard in Bog Walk, St Catherine will play host to the 2014 Drivers Rallysport Club (DRC) Sprint Championship finale, on Sunday. The action starts at 10:00 am.
“We expect it to be a great event with the Rallysport Sprint Champion being determined at the end of the day,” Wayne Piper, DRC president, told Auto.
The Tru-Juice RallySprint Championship Final will see drivers take the course run in reverse direction to amp up the excitement at the already picturesque venue that offers spectacular hilltop viewing.
“Our sponsors Tru-Juice and Protex have prepared a wonderful venue that will keep spectators entertained all day,” Piper added.
Currently, things are tight at the top with Kyle Gregg, Daryl King and Doug Gore holding a win a piece in the series.
“The car is ready and I’m looking forward to it. I mainly want to have a clean event as not to damage the car for the upcoming Rally Jamaica,” Gregg said.
King isn’t planning on being so conservative.
“It’s flat out for me,” he said.
However, King may have it light as his biggest rival Matthew Gore has indicated that he will not be participating as he’s looking ahead to Rally Jamaica 2014. Joel Jackson, another King rival, is tentative as he’s dealing with illness.
The sprint will also have an impact on the overall driver’s championship as dark horse Maurice Whittingham has come straight out retirement to be in the lead of that category by a huge points margin. Victory at Bog Walk could seal his hold on the coveted title.
Piper indicated that the DRC and the motorsports community would also pay tribute to long time competitor Macklin Peterkin, who died suddenly last week.
“All the cars will be wearing a black stripe in his honour,” he said.
