Devano back from Africa
UP-AND-COMING reggae/dancehall artiste Devano is back in the island after a two-week gig in the east African state of Uganda.
The singjay, along with headliners Shaggy and Patra, performed at Club Megafest in Kampala.
“This is not only my first time in Africa, but my first international performance. I am still elated. The reception was way beyond my expectations and I was really surprised when the audience began singing the song In this Jungle in unison with me,” he said.
The track, released in 2012, was produced on the Gayle’s Warrior Music Production Label. He said his set, comprising other singles, were also well received.
According to the 34-year-old, In this Jungle was the track which opened doors for him and spawned several other singles for his manager, Dameon Gayle.
He said he is currently promoting his collaboration with Hallowpoint called No Fear Dem and is preparing for a performance in Guadeloupe next month.
The singjay explained that why he’s relevant is that people can relate to his music.
“I will continue to record those songs,” he said.
Hailing from the tough inner-city community of Waterhouse, St Andrew, Devano (given name Devon Levy) was signed to his label in 2009.
Among his releases are These Streets, Without Love, Trod On and Few Lessons in Life, which features G Whizz, Wasp, Cali P and Sir Ford.
“I’m really focused in making good music. This is what I do best, and I will continue trotting this path,” he explained.
