Flexxing with – Latty J
LAST Friday, Latty J travelled with the teenAGE team to Guy’s Hill High in rural St Catherine. And just after she rocked the stage for the teenAGE Observer Expression Tours, we did a little Flexxing With and took the opportunity to Press Record.
Born Latoya Jackson, Latty J became a household name when she competed and claimed the runner-up spot in the 2011 season of Digicel Rising Stars.
But since then, Latty J says she has been trying to solidify herself in the music indusrty. Come 2014 and she has new management MV Music, under the direction of Mr Vegas.
She has even been featured on Vegas’ new album Reggae Euphoria, with Who Rule — a throwback answer track.
For singles, Latty has released Same Pay (which will have a video soon), a song that calls for equality for pay between men and women; Irie Vibes, which talks about the niceness of reggae; and Put Up Unnu Hand, in which she shows off her deejay talent.
Touring with Mr Vegas, Latty J says it has opened her eyes to the love that the world has for Jamaica’s music.
“The atmosphere is different but it reminds me of home, because of the acceptance of the people. The people love the music just like the people a yaad love it… trust me it is just crazy vibes,” she told Press Record.
The former head girl at Papine High School, Latty J told teenAGE that teens who are looking to enter into the industry must be serious about their education.
“Schoolwork is gonna come in handy! You are going to need it. Beacuse the world changes a lot. Eductaion is a must. If you have the music and you know that’s what you want to do so bad, get your education,” Latty J said.
