St Andrew Rotaract Club hosts annual cancer benefit concert Sunday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Rotaract Club of St Andrew will on Sunday host its annual Live For Faith concert, proceeds from which will go towards the Consie Walters Cancer Care Unit and Hospice at St Joseph’s Hospital in the parish.
The event, which will be held at Café Delite on Haining Road and attract an admission fee of $1,500 per patron, will feature live performance from well known entertainers, including Chino, Jah Vinci, Duane Stephenson, Aisha Davis, Latty J, dBURNZ and the Flashmob Band, Machu Ezra, among other acts. DJ Pepsi is scheduled to rock the crowd with music in between set changes.
The Live for Faith concert was born out of the club’s efforts to assist Faith Hutchinson, a nine-year-old old suffering from osteo-sarcoma, club president, Ammesha Samuels explains.
“The club first became involved with Faith and her family in November of 2010. The club organised a car wash and raised approximately $20,000.00 which went towards purchasing a walker and assisting with medical expenses for Faith,” Samuels added.
She said the club sprung into action again after receiving word that the Faith’s cancer had spread and that treatment was being sought overseas.
“…The Rotaract Club of St Andrew again decided to assist this time organising the inaugural Live for Faith Concert, which was held in August 2011 at the Village Blues Bar Café. Unfortunately Faith passed before the show and so we decided to use the funds to offset the cost of her burial,” Samuels disclosed.
She said the club decided to continue with the concert to benefit cancer sufferers as “every day someone loses the battle” with the disease.
