Singer hopes to be part of revival
RASTAFARIAN roots singer and bass guitar player Kelly Ras Holt intends to add his name to the current revival sweeping the music.
His single, Don’t Kill Me in the Name of Religion, is slated to be released this month with an accompanying video. The single is produced by Sutton Street Music Production.
“The single talks about society and the way things are going,” the 37-year-old told the Jamaica Observer.
Kelly Ras Holt, whose given name is Marlon Carter, said doing music was inevitable, as it was etched in his DNA.
“Music is inherent in my family. I grew up seeing my father Errol ‘Flabba’ Holt playing the guitar,” he said. The senior Holt is part of the formible Roots Radics band.
The former Edna Manley College student said from an early age, he would pound beats on his desk in school and play around with his father’s guitar.
His first single Mix Up Mix Emotion was released in September.
“I would like to see my music go worldwide so everyone can listen and relate to it,” he said.
