Waterhouse look to close gap on Barbican in Women’s Premier League
Waterhouse Football Club will look to close the gap on Barbican Football Club when the two meet in Zone A of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)/Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League at Drewsland Stadium today.
Waterhouse are currently in second place on 20 points, four adrift of Barbican FC, and victory for the Drewsland-based outfit will see them closing the gap on the leaders.
Waterhouse were on the losing end of a 0-1 defeat when the two teams met earlier in the season. However, the Xavier Gilbert-coached ladies have settled down nicely since then, netting 29 goals in nine games with only seven coming against their defensive unit. Leading goal-scorers Chevannesse Clarke (eight goals) and Junielle Watkins (six goals) will be expected to sparkle in the Waterhouse attack if they are to turn the tables.
Barbican FC remain the most dominant outfit in the league as they are yet to be beaten in any competition and have already secured two of the three titles that were up for grabs. The five-time champions’ current record of 36 goals for and one against in eight games, speaks volumes that getting by them will be no easy feat.
Tashana Vincent (10 goals) and Shanique Smith (five goals) will once again lead the charge for the mid-season and knockout champions.
In other Zone A games, the ever-improving Trelawny Women’s FC, who are currently in fourth place on 10 points, will once again be in a fierce battle with sixth-placed Olympic Gardens (seven points), while third-placed Arnett Gardens FC (19 points) could move up to second position if they secure victory in their fixture against fifth-placed Portmore Strikers FC (nine points). Rangers FC (two points), who remain rooted at the bottom of the standings, will be the zone’s resting team.
In Zone B, leaders GC Foster College (25 points) will be looking to extend their unbeaten record when they play away to third-placed Harbour View FC (16 points). Second-placed Los Perfectos FC (24 points) should continue to keep the leaders honest when they visit cellar dwellers Real Morant Strikers (two points), while fifth-placed St James Women’s Academy (10 points) will play away to sixth-placed Boys’ Town FC (four points). Fourth-placed UWI Women’s FC (14 points) will be idle.
All games are scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
