LAST year’s beaten finalist St Hugh High, along with Holy Childhood High, continued on their winning ways after scoring wins as the 2014 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Urban High Schools Junior and Senior League netball competitions continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Thursday.
St Hugh’s, coached by Roy Pryce, defeated Tarrant High 32-22 to win their second match in the second round and their sixth consecutive for the season, while Holy Childhood, coached by Delroy Johnson, also notched up their seventh straight win overall and his second in this round.
Pryce said this second round action is much more competitive as opposed to the preliminary rounds, which resulted in teams winning matches very easily.
Meanwhile, Holy Childhood had to work hard before getting the better of Norman Manley by five goals after leading 20-11 at half-time. Their next game should be against Gaynstead, who have lost both matches.
The Marvette Anderson-coached The Queen’s School, who are highly fancied to retain both Junior and Senior League titles, are another unbeaten team after they crushed Campion College 41-9 and 47-14 in both Junior and Senior League games, respectively.
St Catherine High, coached by Phyllis Thompson, easily defeated St Andrew High 34-16. It was their second win in this round of the Senior League.
In other results in the Junior League, Meadowbrook defeated Alpha Academy 34-16; Norman Manley beat Holy Childhood 33-15; Gaynstead blanked Immaculate 27-13; Camperdown edged Jonathan Grant 26-25 and St Catherine and Excelsior played to a 21-21 result.
In Senior League action, Camperdown stopped Jonathan Grant 39-18; St Catherine got the better of St Andrew 34-16; St Hugh’s beat Tarrant 32-22 and Alpha Academy pipped Gaynstead 27-25.
