Holland High win first game in schoolboys’ basketball
HOLLAND, Trelawny — HOLLAND High has finally won a game in the ISSA Western Conference high schoolboys’ basketball competition after beating William Knibb Memorial in an Under-16 game played at Holland on Tuesday.
After losing a combined 15 games, including two forfeits, to William Knibb last weekend, Holland finally tasted victory when they came from behind to win 23-18, despite failing to score in the first quarter.
William Knibb led 6-0 after the first quarter, but Holland outscored them 9-2 in the second to lead 9-8 at the half. The home team dominated the second half with Delano Fairweather scoring seven points and Shemar Martin six points and 12 rebounds, as well as eight blocks.
The success in the junior category did not carry over to the seniors, however, as William Knibb rebounded from their loss to Herbert Morrison on Monday to win 88-34, with three players scoring more than 20 points. Errol Steele led with 26 points and nine rebounds, Danielle Henry scored 25 points and 13 assists, while Don-Michael Fray scored 24 points.
Hugh Smith scored 28 points in a losing effort for Holland High.
