Nelson moves away from Cardenas
Last year in his quest for championship honours, Dane Nelson came from off the pace, late in the year, to catch and beat main rival then Omar Walker. During his battle with Walker which was the highlight of the 2013 racing, Nelson rode a six-timer to seal the deal.
This year Nelson is locked in a duel with a new rival, Dick Cardenas. On Wednesday, Nelson rode a four-timer, Houdini’s Magic, Rolex, Battle Song and El Numero Uno, to pull further away from Cardenas who had only one winner on the day, Deo Volente.
With the Wednesday four-timer, Nelson is now on 94 wins for the year, four ahead of the Panamanian Cardenas on 90 wins. The four-timer on Wednesday may well be the telling move by Nelson which will secure his third championship title.
