How to get rich by 35
NO one’s goal is to end up a pauper, and while we work for our bosses and collect our pay cheques at the end of each month, our aim is really to get rich fast and retire early in comfort.
Natalie Lue-Fung, entrepreneur and success coach, said the people she has been working with for the past 10 months are as young as 18, and earn at least $800,000 per month when their salaries are converted from US currency.
Lue-Fung, who owns and operates Caribbean Media Management Production Services as well as Skylife, a travel company, shared some tips with Career & Education on how to hit the jackpot by or before our mid-30s.
1.Identify your passion
The individual has to identify what they are absolutely in love with. There has to be love involved. Love is paramount. You can do something you hate and like it, but you will never get rich doing it– eventually you’ll break. Ask yourself what you like and write it down and go after it. A degree is not necessary but it helps with your credibility. If you’re going to enter into the corporate world, then a degree is necessary. “If someone taught me what I know now when I was 15, I would have been insanely rich now,” Lue-Fung said.
2. Think it, believe it.
“As a man thinketh, so is he,” Lue-Fung said. “What do you spend most of your time thinking about?” She said what one thinks about becomes what one speaks about and what one speaks about becomes what one’s life is in a couple hours, months or years. “The most phenomenal leaders are people who master the art of mind control. If you don’t, someone will control it and pay you to control you as well,” she said.
3.Be very focused
“Drive your thinking into extreme focus. The things that you focus on the most become real,” Lue-Fung said.
4. Read
Lue-Fung encourages reading topics around your focus. “Be tunnel-visioned until you achieve what you want. Alexander Bell focused until he invented the telephone and the Wright brothers focused until they made the aeroplane. Focus until you get what you want.”
Also remember, the five persons you’re closest to are the average of your income. Focus and be in a place where you are connected to a certain calibre of person.
5. Create a vision board
‘Write the vision, make it plain on tablets’. “It was a command in the Bible,” Lue-Fung said. “If you break it you have sinned. Write your vision where you would be two years from now, five years, 10 years. If you do this you will overwhelmingly surpass what you thought you would do in the five years.
6. Capitalise on Internet income
If you’re not making money on the Internet you’re not cutting it. Whether it’s a network marketing businesses or something else, find a way to make Internet income.
7. Have multiple streams of income
Lue-Fung advises that you have multiple streams of income and find a way of making residual income. “Find a way to make other money and money in other currencies. Taxes will go up and energy is only traded in US dollars. Make an additional stream of income, put it in a bank account and blind your eyes to it.”
8.Save
Save anywhere between 10 to 35 per cent of your pay. “I don’t care what your expenses are , adjust your lifestyle if you’re not paying yourself first. Always put away money for a rainy day, it doesn’t matter what your income is. When you’re young you can take more risks. If you can’t afford to live now, you can’t afford to live later,” Lue-Fung said.
9.Watch who you take advice from
“Don’t ask your mother who’s never done business for advice. Advice is good but be careful who you take it from. Would you take advice from an unfit person about the gym? Find who’s inspiring you and follow them on social media.”
10. Understand what a loan and credit card is
Lue-Fung encourages young persons to understand the risks associated with both. “A credit card should never be used to purchase food and gas because it is not an interest-bearing asset. If you are about to start a business and need additional streams of income, then you get a credit card, but never use it for frivolous things.”
11. Tithe
“All the secret societies and successful societies of the world tithe. It’s just Christians who have a problem with their own practice. Sow into the kingdom, family next door, church or a foundation. If you help someone to send a child to school, buy food, buy books, then that’s the kingdom’s work.”
12. Volunteer
“Be willing to sacrifice. Volunteer at places that can boost your resume. When you’re ready for a job and you can say you’ve written for a newspaper, volunteered at a law firm or at a hospital, it is impressive. You’ll learn to dress for success, you’ll learn mannerisms and remember, whatever you sacrifice you will get back. Be willing to give what you have for nothing and out of love it will return to you.”
13. Find a successful mentor
Lue-Fung said whether it’s a male or female you will need someone with adequate experience to guide you. But, she said, “Your mentor is not the saviour, so don’t worship the person.” She added that as you move up the ranks you should seek someone at a higher level, as your mentor can only guide you to where they are.
14. Take pictures
“Take pictures of where you want to be and who you want to be. If you have a dream room or a dream bathroom, take pictures of it and use them as a daily reminder that that’s your goal. You don’t get what you want to get. You get what you picture.”
15. Believe
“Believe in yourself and think positive thoughts. Draw a balance and realise that you need to see yourself seriously,” Lue-Fung said.
