Leaders Waterhouse seek to pull away in Monday Night fixture
RED Stripe Premier League (RSPL) leaders Waterhouse FC will try to pull away from the trailing pack when they visit the Stadium East playing field to battle third-placed Cavalier SC in today’s Monday Night football fixture.
Kick-off is set for 8:30 pm.
Waterhouse, coached by Anthony Patrick, are on 20 points after six wins, three draws and one loss. They have been the most consistent of the top flight teams for several months.
But the Rudolph Speid-conditioned Cavalier, who were pacesetters during earlier stages of the season, have proven hard to beat. Cavalier have 17 points with five victories, two draws and a pair of losses, and only trail second-placed Harbour View FC due to an inferior goal-difference.
Notably, Cavalier have the best defensive record in the 2014-15 RSPL, conceding only four goals in nine outings. However, they have managed to hit the back of the opponents’ net on a mere eight occasions.
Though generally highly regarded for their attacking brand of football, Waterhouse have been stingy at the back, letting in only five goals, while scoring 15 times.
Waterhouse captain Damarley Samuels is predicting a competitive contest.
“It is going to be a tough challenge going to their house and on their home field,” the midfielder told the Jamaica Observer.
“Most teams in the league now are coming hard against us; they are not going to lie down against Waterhouse. We have to just bring a good game and follow the coach’s instructions.”
Though conceding that his team has shown good form in recent times, Samuels said the game is likely to be decided by how well he and his teammates execute on the day.
“We can’t be too over confident, but we had a good week of training and I hope we can carry it over into the game and come out on top. We are looking to play some good, attacking football. We have the [quality] players, but we still have to show it on the field,” Samuels said.
Five other games are scheduled for Wednesday.
