The ‘Dance’ is on, will ‘Polly’ be a crasher
THE brilliant unbeaten chestnut filly, Come Dance With Me will once again get her chance to ignite Caymanas Park with her undoubted talent when she goes for win number two (three overall) in the rich Supreme Ventures Limited Two-Year-Old Series — Pick 3 Super Challenge Trophy over 1,400 metres. Standing in her way is the Wayne DaCosta-trained Polly B, who is also unbeaten from two starts.
The Dwight Chen-conditioned Come Dance With Me (Blue Pepsi Lodge – Soca Dancer by Dance Master) receives a boost as two-time defending champion and leading jockey Dane Nelson replaces Percy Williams as the pilot on the classy chestnut filly. Williams is currently in Trinidad and Tobago where is scheduled to ride Princess Popstar in the Caribbean Champion Stakes.
Come Dance With Me, thus far has proven to be the eye-catcher among the juveniles winning her two races to date by 10 1/2 lengths. Come Dance With Me has speed and although venturing beyond six furlongs for the first is sure to carry the bulk of the betting dollars especially with Nelson in the saddle.
Her first victory came on August 31 over five and a half furlongs in a very good clocking of 1:06.2 minutes, a time most horses in Open Allowance would find difficult to emulate, while her second run (six furlongs) was even more impressive as she ended in 1:13.3 minutes. Time alone will tell what are her capabilities going longer but based on her exercise spins, the Blue Pepsi Lodge offspring should have no problems with the trip. Her last work was on Sunday morning, coming out of the chute and galloping the last five furlongs in 1:01.0 minutes. Come Dance With Me is fit and ready.
Meanwhile, Polly B a bay colt by Storm Craft – Dusty Milly By Footloose 11 is coming off a spectacular performance when beating the highly-thought-of Turn Me Loose by one-and-a-quarter lengths. In doing so Polly B established a new stakes record of 1:18:3 minutes for six and a half furlongs on Superstakes Day. On debut, Poly B scorched 1,000 metres straight in a fast 0:58:2 seconds.
On Sunday morning last he galloped five furlongs in 1:00.3 minutes beating Also Correct. That gallop is proof that Polly B is ready to move, quickly come tomorrow afternoon.
While the majority of interest will naturally surround the clash involving Come Dance With Me and Polly B punters should not discard the chances of the Anthony Nunes-trained chestnut colt Alacrann by tested and proven sire Traditional by Maria’s Appeal.
Alacrann did not run up to scratch in the race won by Polly B when defeating Turn Me Loose. His performance was lacklustre as his usual final kick was absent. Punters should note that Alacrann will be administered with Lasix for the first time which is a sign that he probably bled in the event. If that is indeed so and Alacrann returns to his best, watch for him to come on strong in the final furlong and look for him to win if the front-running duel between Polly B and Come Dance With Me turns out to be too hot.
