Polly B, Come Dance With Me set for showdown in Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy
IT is expected that the Wayne DaCosta-trained Polly B will stalk the early pace before taking over from the morning line favourite Come Dance With Me as they go thundering down the track to win the 10th running of the Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy second-leg Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Two-Year-Old Series at Caymanas Park today.
Colt Polly B and filly Come Dance With Me, are two fine locally bred and talented two-year-olds in training to date, with both having already chalked up impressive wins. Come Dance With Me can boast of being the winner of the SVL “Cash Pot Only One For Me” first-leg, while Polly B impressed in his second outing by winning in record time going 1,300 metres. This makes going a little farther a cinch.
Both will be meeting each other for the first time and a hotly contested Grades Stakes call of nine runners going 1,400 metres for the major share of the $3.6-million purse is expected.
For their first meeting, both trainers have left nothing to chance. Champion jockey Dane Nelson gets the call aboard Come Dance With Me, while Dick Cardenas will continue in the saddle of Polly B.
With Polly B showing from his running style that he will enjoy the distance and Come Dance With Me, bred along sprinting lines, both horses have been prepared for the conquest somewhat differently leading into the race.
Trainer Dwight Chen, who has no doubt that his charge will enjoy 1,400 metres that fall within the confines of sprinting, has taken Come Dance With Me through her paces with a series of fast gallops that include the 1,100-metre and 1,200- metre dashes.
On the other hand, DaCosta’s Polly B, who will get the 1,400 metres without a murmur, has not gone beyond 1,000 metres after cantering a series of 1,800 metres in his preparation. This is a likely indication that the 13-time champion trainer is preparing Polly B to be closer to the pace in this smarter-looking field before being unleashed by Cardenas, entering the final 400-metre strip to take advantage of the expected waning speed of Come Dance With Me.
Other talents present in the race are Ali Baba and Silver Cloud from the stables of DaCosta; Alacrann, who finished second to Come Dance With Me in the SVL “Cash Pot” first-leg; Trojan, conditioned by Anthony Nunes, and Elite Bloodstock’s Pizzaro, who is the only runner in the line-up to have gone the distance and won.
