DESPITE the low turnout, almost two-hour late start, and technical glitches, dancehall artiste Demarco delivered a tight set at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records on Tuesday night.

The entertainer was the guest performer at the weekly Behind the Screen concert series on Constant Spring Road.

Demarco, whose given name is Collin Edwards, told the Jamaica Observer that a reggae album is in the works for May next year.

“We want to do something different. People would expect a dancehall album, so we approach it in a different way. It will have an alternative reggae feel …something

like Bruno Mars. Something which everyone can listen to,” he said.

He said the yet-to-be-titled set will be produced by True Gift/Star Kutt Records.

It was close to midnight when dancehall artiste Stacious announced the concert would begin with the debut of Demarco’s Puppytail music video.

By this time, some members of the audience were seemingly disgruntled over the lengthy delay.

“The man a move slack, star. In here [the venue] not gonna get any fuller. Demarco a move like him name Kartel,” an irritated male patron said to his colleagues.

After a few technical glitches, the small gathering focused their attention on the screens to view the video that was produced by Dunwall Productions. A dance song for females, Puppytail is a new Jamaican dance to which Demarco gives instructions.

Backed by the Live Wire band, Demarco took his fans down memory lane with renditions of Toots and the Maytals’ Bam Bam, Chaka Demus and Pliers’ Murder She Wrote and Nardo Ranks’ Dem a Bleach.

He then diverted his attention to the females present and had them dancing to songs such as Steady Wine, Lazy Body, Apartment and Freaky Gyal.

Also joining Demarco on stage was Voicemail member Craig Jackson.

He later continued his performance with a string of hits from his catalogue including Fallen Soldiers, Sort Dem Out, Live My Life, Puppytail, Standing Soldier and Duppy Know Who fi Frighten.

The Behind the Screen Concert series continues next Tuesday with the King of the Dancehall Beenie Man.
