Teflon looks to a Different Dimension
CULTURAL dancehall singjay Teflon said he is pleased with his musical growth and hopes the trend will continue for 2015.
He is currently working on his
soon-to-be-released 14-track album, Different Dimension. Produced by Yard A Love Records, the set features EDM producer Kingdumb.
The singjay said he is hoping that the project will be a mainstream hit.
“I wonder if people don’t see how the state of our music is in, because we don’t have any international record labels or investors looking in dancehall/reggae direction. So I really hope that this album will make a difference,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Teflon said despite the setback due to the death of his road manager Ricardo ‘Blackman’ Lowe, he was able to reconnect with his fans.
“He was responsible for I brand within the grass-roots market. Hence, his loss set back the brand a little … but he still lives on in I music and that’s why I put out my all in my music in his memory,” he said.
“My musical successes were tremendous, outside of Jazz & Blues and Sumfest. I was on all the major events and gave intense performances at all, to which the responses were impressive. There was also increased rotation on the local airwaves as I got a lot of new fans,” he continued.
Teflon (real name Shaniel Watson) emerged on the scene in 2003. He scored his first hit two years later with Gun Rise. He released his debut album, Motherless Child, in February 2009. His other tracks include That’s Life, Me Nah Let Go and Got to Make It Work.
