Electronic driving champs crowned
JAMROCK Remote Control Car Club (JRRCCC) Island Electric Series (IES) came to an end with the final round dubbed ‘Hell Inna 2 Cell’ at their Michi Supercenter track, off Washington Boulevard, St Andrew, recently.
At the end of the day the three class champions, Raffique Golaub, Denise Clarke, and Mike Clarke were revealed after the points were tallied up.
“I originally thought that electric was slower than the nitro/gas cars that I normally run, but the series looked competitive,” Golaub told Auto.
Golaub won the IES Electric RCGT class. Despite his initial misgivings he bought a new car to compete, a Team Magic E4RS EVO with a Nissan R390 GT1 body, and joined later in the season. As time passed he found not only his enjoyment of his hobby expanded, but his knowledge as well.
“Electric cars are easier, cleaner, and cheaper to run. However, I’m still committed to both the electric and the nitro/gas series. It has definitely increased my knowledge of electric RC cars,” he explained.
The IES Mini FWD class went to Denise Clarke. The class is more restrictive using a basic formula which includes all competitors using the same body style – a 1:10 scale Mini, and same motor.
“I’m very excited to win the inaugural championship, as I just joined to help build interest in the class,” Clarke said.
Using a front-wheel drive ABC Hobby Grid Mini, she bested Izette McCalla and Mike Clarke, who came second and third in the class, respectively.
“I think this is the most fun class and I am going to stick around in 2015,” she added.
The overall champion in Electric Touring was Mike Clarke with his Team Associated chassis sporting a 1:10 scale Mazda6 GX body. A seasoned professional, he was happy to hold his award in the club’s first championship series.
“In this class it’s about tuning and driving skill since we have the same basic parts. I know everyone is stepping up their game for 2015, so I’m looking into some upgrades myself, like a new chassis,” Clarke explained.
Denise Clarke, who is also JRRCCC president, said that 2014 had been a good year for the club with 28 members and an active social media presence piquing interest.
“Our nitro/gas series concludes later this year and in February we’re looking at starting an off-road series at a new circuit in Stony Hill,” she said.
