Professor Bain’s dismissal takes effect
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Professor Brendan Bain on Wednesday lost his application to extend an injunction that was preventing the University of the West Indies (UWI) from terminating his service as director of the regional co-ordinating unit of the Caribbean HIV/AIDS Regional Training Network (CHART).
The court — which consists of justices Lennox Campbell, Paulette Williams and Frank Williams — decided not to extend the injunction which prevented the university’s termination letter of May 20, 2014 from taking effect.
Queen’s Counsel Hugh Small had opposed the extension of the injunction on Tuesday, arguing that the CHART programme is coming to an end due to the United States Government’s decision to pull funding. He had said staff members of the programme had already been let go.
