December 2014 deadliest month on Ja’s roads in 3 years
KINGSTON, Jamaica — December was the deadliest month on the island’s roads since 2012, with 40 recorded fatalities. This number was 11 more than the recorded 29 in December 2013 and 16 more than the 24 fatalities in December 2012.
In fact, according to the most recent figures released by the National Road Safety Council (NRCS), the number of fatal crashes and fatalities across the island in 2014 exceeded the number recorded in 2013.
The statistics show that from January 1 to December 31 last year there were 299 fatal crashes and 330 fatalities.
When compared to 2013, there were 25 more fatal crashes and 23 more fatalities.
Based on the statistics, fatalities and fatal crashes have steadily increased over the last three years, with 235 fatal crashes and 260 fatalities recorded in 2012.
However, fewer children lost their lives on the nation’s roads last year, with 26 recorded fatalities, compared to the 34 children who died in 2013.
