Stop dreaming, start doing
WHILE some people excel at achieving their goals, others remain dreamers and end up imagining what their lives could be like, without making any bold steps.
But ideas don’t happen by accident, or because they are great. Ideas are made to happen through a series of forces related to organisations and leveraging the power of community.
The choice is ultimately yours — you can spend your days dreaming of a better life or you can do the messy work of taking your dream to the world.
Below Career & Education explores a few ways young professionals can stop dreaming and start doing.
1. Get equipped
According to Cameca Samuels, founder of Living Things, the team that wants to do more says ‘yes we can’. “We dream and we try to make it materialise. Living Things was always at the back of my mind. I spent many hours researching specifics, reading magazines, rearranging my parents’ house, and just daydreaming, wanting all the time to be close to everything design and function-related,” she said.
2. Continuously improve
Samuels also said that adopting good practices makes a difference. “Notwithstanding, we exist in a competitive marketplace laced with challenges. We have experienced our fair share as it is not enough to be passionate but to be equally exposed to good business practices. We try our very best to improve our systems and efficiencies to improve our results and overall business success,” she said.
3. Start
All ideas are great, but nothing gets shaken by a bunch of dreams. Make the leap of faith and kick-start your career.
4. Save
A certain degree of financial independence is required to achieve most of life’s goals. Once you save towards your goals, you are in a better position to live your dream.
5. Work together with people who have similar aspirations
Think of climbing a ladder; as soon as you’re stable, your partner will reach for the next rung. Surround yourself with people who have the same dream and are willing to help you grow and attain your goals.
