Dr Blair gets call for Millard Ziadie Mem Cup
FRANFIELD &hellip;fancied to win today&rsquo;s Overnight Allowance<br />event over 1,600 metres

Dr Blair gets call for Millard Ziadie Mem Cup

THE Millard Ziadie Memorial Cup, a $350,000 – $300,000 claiming event over 1,100 metres, is the designated feature on an 11-race card at Caymanas Park today.

However, much attention will also be paid to the Overnight Allowance penultimate call where some former very useful top-flight campaigners go 1,600 metres for principal share of a $715,000 purse.

The Millard Ziadie, whose winner is more than likely to come from either of Dr Blair, Exclusive Prince, Frankenstorm or Rolex, is scheduled to go to post at approximately 2:10 pm, with first post at 12:10 pm.

At a glance the imported Dr Blair seems to have a special liking for this journey, but his habitual custom for being slowly into stride, more than likely is the cause why the five-year-old roan gelding is campaigning at this level. His most recent record over sprint distances is most encouraging and with the presence of the 2.0kg claiming apprentice Romario Saunders in the saddle to come in at a comfortable 52.0kg, the Anthony Ferguson-owned and trained sprinter should not be far away.

Exclusive Prince looks the one most likely to take the fight to Dr Blair and can do so successfully with the presence of the three-time champion jockey Dane Nelson in the irons, although he would have preferred it a tad longer.

However, the presence of Nelson on board could make the difference. Another, who can join Exclusive Prince to take the fight to the very end, is the Rohan Gordon-owned and trained Frankenstorm, who not so long ago won his last race over today’s distance in much better company.

Meanwhile, trainer Richard Azan looks more likely to post the favourite for the 10th and penultimate Overnight Allowance call on the programme going 1,600 metres with his trump card Franfield.

The four-year-old chestnut son of Traditional in his round-up events as a three-year-old last season was beaten only by the best sprinters and stayers of last year and among his conquerors were Potcheen and Typewriter, respectively.

Since then Franfield is now returning for his four-year-old season and will do so very well prepared for his re-entry. Dane Nelson will do duties.

Despite the similarity of the field, Franfield, who heads the handicaps at 54.0kg along with Military Move under Winston Griffiths will have to show vast improvement to get away from this present bunch for a comfortable win.

Red Flag, who was beaten by Franfield at even weights over the distance last October, seemed to be chomping at the bit for a rematch and will come in at a comfortable 50.0kg for the apprentice O’Brien White.

Others expected to test the resolve of Franfield include Hover Craft, who holds a narrow but decisive win against Franfield going 1,400 metres, and the sly Rum Punch, who may just prove more competitive than expected.
