Jamalco donates computers to Hayes Primary & Junior High
MAY PEN, Clarendon — Pupils and teachers at the Hayes Primary & Junior High School in Clarendon were all smiles recently after receiving three computers from Jamalco, a release from the bauxite/alumina company said.
The computers have been placed in the school’s library.
Corporate Services and Government Affairs Manager Leo Lambert says that the computers were donated “to open up a brand new world to those children who do not have access to computers”.
According to Lambert, the information super highway is the new game. “If you are not on there you are going to be left behind. It opens up a new world both bad and good,” he said.
He cautioned the children not to get trapped on what is bad on the Internet.
“Look for the good that can enrich your learning. You can widen your horizon in terms of what you are learning by visiting the educational sites,” Lambert said.
An appreciative Principal, Marsha Latchman expressed gratitude to Jamalco for the computers. She explained that the school has for several months been trying to upgrade the library.
“We are really excited that we now have three computers on which children can go to research and they can no longer make excuses for not completing their research assignments,” she said.
Latchman added that the computers will be effectively used. She reiterated that the computers are not for playing games or to visit unapproved sites but are solely for school related purposes. “We are now determined and fired up to transform our library to represent a school that is on a mission to become a school of choice,” she said.
