Ifidel takes spotlight
DIGICEL Rising Stars backup singer Ifidel Williams stepped into the spotlight. The 27-year-old has recorded a cover of Sam Smith’s Not the Only One and Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud.
Produced by BE Entertainment label, the singles were released February 20 and last week, respectively.
“The feedback has been incredible so far; several radio disc jockeys have thrown their support behind it,” he said.
Ifidel, who has provided backing vocals for Tessanne Chin and the Billboard chart-topper Diana King, said working on Rising Stars helped him to grow.
“The Rising Stars TV show was a great experience for me, eight years of experience and growth, and it allowed me to leverage a fan base, because fans of the show love the work of the background vocalists as well. Now, I just feel it is appropriate that I take the chance and see what happens,” Ifidel said.
The singer shares how he came by his Christian name.
“My grandmother named me Ifidel after a famous football star she fell in love with. I was teased growing up, they called me Ifi and infidel, but I have grown to love the name because I believe. People must have belief whether it is in self, their career or the people around them. Belief anchors you, drives you and keeps you grounded,” he chuckled.
