KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kevon Gordon, the police constable involved in the shooing death of 44-year-old Garfield Coburn in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew, on Friday, March 6, was this morning granted $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.

The policeman was reportedly pointed out on March 14 and subsequently charged with murder.

Allegations, according to the police reports, are that Coburn stabbed at the policeman that has been charged with his murder.

The police had allegedly gone to the bar in Lawrence Tavern to order that the music being played be turned off because no permit had been issued.

It was then that the deceased allegedly advanced towards the policeman and stabbed at him.

However, residents in the area are saying the man had no weapon.

A video surfaced on social media last Friday, showing a policeman engaged in a confrontation with a civilian, later identified as Gordon and Coburn, respectively.

In the video, the policeman is attempting to arrest the civilian, but he appeared to have been resisting.

The policeman later unholstered his firearm, some time after which an explosion was heard and Coburn was seen on the ground.

Two policemen and another man in plain clothes removed the civilian from the frame of the video.

Several users of social media ascribed blame to the police after the video was posted. The policeman was subsequently arrested.
