Chronixx rocks Portland
ROOTS-REGGAE singer Chronixx and his backing band Zinc Fence Redemption closed his Capture Land Tour with a fiery performance at Oyster Bay on Sunday.
The singer’s three-hour stint was the perfect ending to his ‘tour’, which saw other performances in Hanover, St Elizabeth, and Kingston.
To the packed venue, Chronixx kicked off with Alpha and Omega. After a few tracks, he shared his love for the rustic parish which he said is an ideal spot for doing music videos.
“This is my first performance in Portland,” he said.
He then introduced Kelissa who did Slow Down to the joy of the patrons.
“It was a joy performing here for the first time and joy coming out here. It was a good thing sharing the experience and sharing the journey. It was like a classroom as the people were learning the message we are trying to teach;” she told the Jamaica Observer after her stint.
Chronixx showed respect to the reggae greats with a medley from the catalogues of Toots & The Maytals and Bob Marley. He went on to his popular Smile Jamaica, Capture Land, and Here Comes Trouble.
The headliner’s set was mixed with social commentary. He bemoaned the lack of reggae music on our airwaves and declared reggae music is greater than R&B. He challenged patrons to take care of the children.
Performances also came from Keznamdi and Dre Island as well as Addis Pablo, son of the late Augustus Pablo, who played his recorder much to the delight of the patrons.
Chronixx ended with Clean like a Whistle and Spirulina. He obliged the patrons’ demands with an encore.
“I think this show was special and I enjoyed this show the most. Portland is special it is my first show here and without apology Portland is my favourite parish in Jamaica. The vibes was good just as the other shows. The love is there from the Jamaican people for my music, and I tried to give them the best musical selection. It is sad that we don’t get to perform here (Jamaica) more but it is very challenging to do so,” he told the Observer.
