THE National Water Commisison (NWC) said yesterday that several of its customers in St Mary were without their regular water supply because of high turbidity (muddy water) affecting its White River, Pottinger Spring, Lucky Hill, Palmetto Grove, Rock Spring, Bonny Gate and Sand Hill Water systems.
The high turbidity has been caused by heavy rains which have been affecting the island since Sunday.
Areas without water are: Endeavour, Cascade, St Mary Country Club, Charles Town, Tree Hills, Rock Cotrage, Industry Pen, Pottinger Spring, Lucky Hill, Elgin Town, Halifax, Rose Street, Retirement, Arcadia Housing Scheme, parts of Saltrun, Barclay Town, Jeffrey Town, Palmetto Grove, Rock Spring, Beecham Hill, Zion Hill, Flint River, parts of Richmond, Essex, Bonny Gate and environs, Port Maria, Port Maria Housing Scheme, Sandside, Albion Mountain, Grey Street, Church Street, Bailey’s Vale, Cambridge, Free Hill, Oxford and parts of Cox Street.
Meanwhile, customers served by the Sue River Water Treatment Plant in St Catherine were without their regular water supply due to an electrical problem at the plant.
Areas affected include: Free Town, Brenard, Sue River, Mizpah, St Faiths, Cassava River, Glengoffe, Goffe Road, Jambos Pond and Big Road.
At the same time, the NWC advised that customers in some rural St Andrew communities that the low water pressure, and in some instances of no water, was caused by low inflows to a number of intake facilities.
“Intake facilities impacted by this low water supply inflows are: Rock Hall, King Weston, Isaac Hole, Bucky Plain, Belboa, Mahoney, Barnettwood, McGowan Spring and Second Breakfast,” the NWC said in a release.
The NWC said efforts were being being made to restore regular service to the affected areas within the shortest possible time.
