Heelz & Wheelz set to roll on Sunday
ANDREW Leesing, organiser of the annual Heelz & Wheelz auto show, said all is in place for Sunday’s staging at the National Arena in St Andrew.
The show, which is in its eighth staging, will run from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
“I have done everything I can to mobilise car and truck owners to come out,” he said.
Unlike other car shows, Heelz and Wheelz is built on the competitive spirit, and offers trophies in several categories rather than just static vehicle displays.
Leesing expects around 200 cars and trucks, vying in areas such as Best Make or Lowest Ride, and is adamant that judging will start at 3:00 pm.
“We can’t go late into the night trying to judge things like best paint job,” he explained.
However, his focus has been pioneering the truck segment and reviving the old-school mobile sound clash.
“This will be the first time customised trucks will be on show and compete in Kingston and inside the National Stadium,” he added.
For the car stereo segment, there is an amateur category, but Leesing has invited several heavyweights from the bar promotional scene to participate. There has also been an increase in the family friendliness of the event with a single price for the Kidz Zone.
“You no longer have to pay separately for each ride, there is just one fee and access to all of them now.”
