JNGI eyes young drivers
JN General Insurance Company Limited launched its latest insurance policy programme with an showing of Furious 7 at Carib 5 cinema in St Andrew, on Tuesday.
The new policy, JNGI Drive Smart, is aimed squarely at young drivers between 17 and 29 years of age.
“Most insurance companies think young drivers are wild, crazy and liable to get into accidents, but JNGI sees them as the future,” Chris Hind, general manager JN General Insurance Company Limited told Auto.
Drive Smart offers 40 per cent off insurance premiums to qualified applicants, as there is more to the policy than just the large discount. Hind quoted recent data from the World Health Organization’s Injury Chart book to reveal that Jamaica sees 65 deaths per 100,000 vehicles yearly. A staggering figure that indicates that Jamaicans are four times more likely to be killed on our own roads against the American data, and a massive nine times versus England.
“This is an opportunity for JNGI to urge road users, especially young ones, to take care on our roads,” Hind went to explain.
To that end, applicants must complete the Jamaica Automobile Association’s (JAA) Driver Improvement Programme in order to receive the lower cost. Worth $10,000, it is a practical course in defensive driving as taught by the experts at the JAA.
“It shows you how to manage the considerable risks that we all face on Jamaica roads,” Hind said.
With its given demographics JNGI has reached for female racer Natasha Chang and YouTube star Rushane ‘Dutty Berry’ Berry as brand ambassadors.
“I’m very excited about this. The synergy between a race car driver and an insurance company is an unusual one, but it is the younger persons that are generally interested in cars or driving,” Chang said.
Both will be involved in a media campaign with a heavy bent on social media where the large majority of youngsters opt for their information.
