Ally’s Easter Cookout
Ahead of last Easter holiday weekend, Ally’s Kitchen proprietor and frequent Observer Thursday Life contributor Allison Porter-Smalling extended an invite to friends and close associates to gather on the lawn of her family’s Porter Brothers business place in New Kingston for what she hopes will become a quarterly-staged cookout.
Billed an ‘Easter Cookout’, the Rainforest Seafoods-sponsored event saw a hot-from-the grill, coal stove-cooked and wood fire-prepared menu that included fried fish, barbecued ribs, curried goat, and jerk chicken.
Porter-Smalling, an avowed cooking enthusiast, along with her business partners Deveta McLaren and Simone Reynolds, told us they are angling to create a seasonal food destination event.
“It’s something we want to do every three months,” Porter-Smalling shared with us. “Each time we do it [in the future], it will be a different experience with different types of foods on the menu…it will not be the same. We want to provide food that is of great quality, and you will see some of the recipes that I have provided for Observer readers. The next event might be a little more upscale.”
