Woman charged with embezzling insurance funds
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police, on Friday, arrested and charged a 38-year-old woman for embezzlement, under the Larceny Act.
She is Janiel Everett, an underwriting clerk of a St Catherine address.
Reports are that on August 8, 2014 Everett, who was employed to an insurance agency at the time, was allegedly given a sum of $33,000 by a customer to add to his insurance account.
However, an audit of the accounts conducted on April 7 revealed that only $16,000 of the customer’s $84,977 insurance premium reflected on the system.
The Fraud Squad was contacted, an investigation was subsequently launched and Everett was taken into custody.
She was bailed with surety in the sum of $30,000 and is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates court on Wednesday, April 22.
