Fashion tips to keep you on fleek

For some of us, getting dressed can be quite challenging; not because we have nothing to wear, but because we just find it extremely difficult coordinating a sensible outfit. Below are just a few fashion guidelines that are sure to help:

COLOUR COORDINATION

The

colour

brown is subtle, safe and fashionable which makes it easy for us to match anything with it. Whether you’re wearing a bright

coloured

or slightly extravagant outfit, brown shoes might be a nice way to tone it down and still keep you looking simple and classy. Neon

colours

do not mix! A neon green top cannot be worn with a neon pink or orange bottom or footwear or accessory. Just like prints, wear one neon

colour per

outfit. Neon

colours

are extremely bright, but can be toned down nicely with dark jeans and nude or soft brown footwear.

PRINTS

Tiger and leopard prints, plaid, stripes, camouflage, polka dots and Aztec prints. You do not have to match with the

colours

in your print. Wearing the

colour

red with leopard print is very cliched; so deviating from this trend would be a great idea. Try mustard, which gives the leopard print a very nice pop. When wearing plaids or stripes, please do not mix the two, one print at a time. Matching print on print looks extremely ridiculous and

moreover it

doesn’t

co-ordinate

.

ACCESSORIES

This is often the most difficult part in getting dressed, because if an outfit is badly accessorised, then the entire outfit will be unappealing. Simple is always safe; therefore, a simple necklace is sufficient, especially if you’re wearing bright

colours

or prints. Pearls are also great, because they can enhance any outfit. Heavy jewelry is not to be worn with prints; the entire outfit will be overcrowded and silly.  Also, know when to wear clutches, handbags and cross bags and also in what colour.

A handbag does not need to match with your outfit, that’s a big no no! Also, if your outfit is a bit extravagant, a hand bag would be too much; so you may go with a small clutch instead. Handbags are worn with simple outfits so as not to make your onlookers confused. A fashionable handbag does not need to go with an “over the top” attire because that will only detract the attention from your outfit which would be contrary to your aim.

FOOTWEAR

Sandals and sneakers do not always have to go with your skinny jeans. Pumps, or wedges are also appropriate with a pair of skinny jeans for a semi-formal or casual elegant look. A formal attire in flip flops is the biggest turn off, leave your flip flops for the beach and ensure to match a comfortable pair of pumps that you’re able to strut around in for at least eight hours. If by chance you’re not big on heels – which many of us aren’t – wear a plain flat shoes and match that with a dashing blazer, or a fancy cardigan to maintain the standard of attire. Gladiator sandals are a nice substitute for plain boring sandals that will add flare to a fashionable mini dress; completing the outfit with a very chick and perky look.

Getting dressed does not have to be a hassle, once we’re all aware of the unwritten rules to the glamorous world of fashion. This is why we’ve made sure to provide them for reference the next time you’re getting ready to paint the town red.
