Hillel Academy cop 2015 All-Island Prep Schools Tennis title
HILLEL Academy produced an outstanding performance to capture majority of the awards at the 2015 All-Island Prep Schools Tennis Tournament held at the Russell Tennis Academy recently.
They copped the Davis Cup team tennis competition by amassing 18 points, with Sts Peter and Paul in second on 17 points and Hopefield finishing third on 12.
Ibhanan Lillany of Hillel won the six and under open singles 4-3 over Ishaen Lilaney, also of Hillel, with the consolation singles won by Daniel Wright of Wolmer’s from Mikala Williams of Hillel.
Siblings Matthew James of Hillel and Alyssa James did not play in the final against each other in the 8 and under open singles, while the consolation final went to Matthew Bromwell of Wolmer’s 4-1 over Veejahnee Maye of St Thomas Moore.
The 10 and under doubles was won by the pair of Christian Gordon and Savannah Thompson of Hillel, who defeated Dylan Vaz and Matthew James of Hillel 4-3 in the final. Jason Galimore and Alex Crawford of Hillel won the consolation final 4-0 over the pair of Kayla Farman and Mia Beckford of Hopefield Prep.
Jordon Vaz of Sts Peter and Paul was the winner of the 10 and under invitational boys’ singles final by beating Nathan Chin of Sts Peter and Paul 4-2, 4-2.
The 10 and under invitational girls’ singles was captured by Savannah Thomson of Hillel, who defeated Abbey-Gail Perue of Barracks Road Primary 4-2, 4-2 in the final.
John Chin of Hillel beat Deano Reeves of Barracks Road Primary to win the King Alarm Open singles final 4-0, 4-0, while the consolation final was won by Zander Bicknell of Hillel over Arian Trahan, also of Hillel 4-1.
Savannah Thomson of Hillel Academy was named the most valuable player (MVP) for the girls, while the MVP in the boys was John Chin. The special award for sportsmanship was won by Nathan Chin of Sts Peter and Paul.
