PIONEER Manufacturing Distribution Company Limited (PMD) responded to Netball Jamaica’s appeal and has announced a sponsorship deal for Sunshine Girl Shantal Slater under the ‘Adopt a Player’ programme.

The company has embraced the programme and will lend its support to the 23-year-old goalshooter for her preparation for four months, as well as a special contribution for her own expenses under the terms of the sponsorship.

In addition to adopting Slater, PMD also extended a sponsorship cheque of $280,000 to Netball Jamaica as they continue preparation for the Netball World Cup in Australia in August.

Alfred Thomas, managing director of PMD, explained that the sponsorship is a part of their ongoing commitment to demonstrate good corporate social responsibility wherever possible.

“We are delighted to be able to participate and, in particular, be able to assist in helping a player hone her skills to give us an even better chance of bringing home the trophy.

“The added bonus is us being able to expose Shantal to Jamaica on an individual level; we hope it will boost her career as well as heighten the awareness of our newly relaunched Chloro-Do Bleach brand, and we look forward to continuing to build a strong relationship with Netball Jamaica,” said Thomas.

Marva Bernard, president of Netball Jamaica, commended PMD’s gesture as she reaffirmed her organisation’s commitment to excellence.

“We are excited to have PMD on board and laud the company for supporting such a worthy cause. We assure them that we are dedicated to preparing the team to perform at the very highest level,” she noted.

Slater is set to temporarily be a part of a team representing the newly relaunched Chloro-Do brand.
